No analog stick functionality with MFI controller support for a SHMUP?

Its cool they implemented MFI controller support but its practically unplayable being limited to a D-Pad without analog stick support for this bullet hell shoot me up. Maybe its my controller; Mad cats ctrli game pad but I dont think so. Besides that it reminds of some of my favorite arcade shmups like Armed Police Batrider and Batsugun. There are so many good shmups on this platform it would be awesome if somebody would make an iPad compatible Bluetooth 4 way seimitsu joystick gamepad for this purpose.
